I cleaned the gun before going to the range as I have learned this is always a good practice plus it let me familiarize myself with the gun. SIG had a bad run of them early in P365 production but that problem was licked a long time ago. The new striker will have a stronger, beveled tip on it and should last you many thousands of rounds. The flat faces forward in the closed position. The rear end of the guide rod rests on the takedown lever (or pin). This requires the guide rod to protrude at the muzzle by about 3/16" or the difference between flat up and flat forward.
